Holstein Calf Sells for Record $112,000 at Global Impact Sale, Gippsland

A three year process paid off to the tune of $112,000 today. Friends Rocky Allen, Cobargo NSW, Alex Cochrane and Jared Cochrane, Nowra and Craig Cochrane Geelong received the Australasian record dairy sale price for their three-month-old Holstein heifer at the Global Impact sale at Lardner Park today.

UPDATE: Parrabel Rockstar O’Kalibra-Imp-ET is now owned by California dairying couple Frank and Diane Borba after she was purchased by US agent Dusty Schirm.

Mr Schirm, who was also in Australia as a fitter for the sale, said the Borbas would market the offspring of the top price heifer as her cow family was new to the US.

Vendor Rocky Allen was wrapped his heifer made more than $100,000.

“It’s unbelievably exciting,” he said.

“When the bidding was going on (it felt) amazing, we were shocked with what was happening.

“You think, you wish in the lead up to the sale (you would get the price) but for it to happen, wow.”

He said the journey to get to the sale was a three-year process and it included importing the embryo to Australia.

“It was a big investment,” he said.

“(The sale price) well covers the cost of the investment but there’s a lot of risk in the investment as well.”
