Great Things Happening at 2014 National Holstein Convention

The 2014 National Holstein Convention will be descending on Sherbrooke, QC from April 2 to 5, 2014 and promises an agenda jam-packed with fantastic events. Convention is the place where Holstein Canada members from across Canada gather together for not only the Annual General Meeting (AGM), but to be inspired by fellow breeders and to celebrate the achievements of fellow breeders and, of course, the Holstein Cow herself.

Holstein Canada is pleased to announce that the inspirational Mylène Paquette of Montréal, QC has been invited to serve as Guest Speaker at this year’s AGM. In November 2013, after 129 days at sea, capsizing 10 times and facing waves of over 10 meters, Mylène became the first North American Woman to row across the North Atlantic Ocean. She left Halifax, Canada on July 6th and after 2,700 nautical miles, arrived in Lorient, France on November 12th.

Mylène worked as a personal care attendant for sick children at the CHU Sainte-Justine for over nine years. It was during this time that she made the choice to change her life after an upsetting conversation with one of the seriously ill children. At the age of 27, she discovered the international discipline of ocean rowing and fell in love with this innovative sport.

Since 2010, she has served as a speaker for a number of corporate, school and public engagements. As an environmental advocate, she also serves an ambassador of the St. Lawrence River as a part of the David Suzuki Foundation. She rows, she trains, she sails, but most interestingly of all, she has crossed the Atlantic Ocean…alone…in a row boat!

The Guest Speaker presentation will take place following the AGM on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at the Delta Sherbrooke Hotel and Conference Centre in Sherbrooke, QC.
