Genus ABS, the UK’s largest cattle breeding and artificial insemination business has appointed Katie Miller to be the Technical Services GMS Specialist in the South West. She will be responsible for working with customers to use the market leading GMS system to improve the genetic merit of their herds in a structured manner.
Katie was brought up on the 2012 Gold Cup winning Greville Hall Farm near Evesham in Worcestershire. She worked on the home farm before spending eight months working on a 2,000 cow dairy farm in South Australia.
In 2009 she joined Genus ABS as Progeny Promotions Manager promoting the Genus ABS dairy bull team, producing marketing material and supplying genetic data to customers and breeding advisors.
Her new role will involve working with customers to utilise the GMS system, the computerised bull selection programme, to develop strategies to make the best use of available genetics to develop the cows required to be the foundation of sustainable systems.
“GMS is a unique and versatile management tool which can be used to build cows to fit the individual farm’s system and improve their overall make-up. This in turn leads to longer lasting and profitable cows, taking account of production, type and management traits,” Katie explains.
