Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin sets new Guinness World Record

Wisconsin has a new record adding to its claim to dairy fame: collecting the most cheese on a cheeseboard.
“Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin, I can say you have collected 4,387 pounds of cheese, that’s a new Guinness World Record,” the judge announced Wednesday afternoon.

The new world’s largest cheeseboard topped the previous European record holder by more than 1,000 pounds, according to a release.

The cheese board spanned 35 feet long and 7 feet wide. There were 145 different varieties, types and styles of Wisconsin’s unique specialty and artisan cheeses.

The grand centerpiece was a 2,000-pound mammoth cheddar wheel from Henning’s Wisconsin Cheese. Some of the other cheeses included blue-veined and cave-aged cheddars, fresh feta, squeaky curds and the 2017 U.S. Cheese Champion Sartori Black Pepper BellaVitano.

More than 60 people worked to prep, transport, house, style and weigh all the cheese. The Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin started collecting the cheese downtown early Wednesday morning.

More than 45,000 attendees went to look at the cheese board Wednesday night. The first 2,000 received a curated cheese plate to-go.

None of the cheese went to waste. Spectators entered a raffle to win full wheels of cheese with proceeds going to the Great American Milk Drive. The rest of the cheese went to the Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin.
