Non-profit organization, Dairy Cares of Wisconsin, has raised a record setting $453,000 on behalf of the Children’s Wisconsin health system during this year’s campaign. That amount represents the best year in Dairy Care’s 14-year fundraising history. With that success, it also has surpassed $3.1 million raised for Children’s of Wisconsin since its inception.
Jim Ostrom, Dairy Cares committee chairman, shared his passion for giving back to others on the Uplevel Dairy Podcast. “In life, no matter what your station is, we as human beings should give back. All I ask of people that I know is that we all get involved in something.” Whether that is helping a neighbor with gardening or making a business contribution to a great cause, every act of service gives back to the community.
Since 2010, Dairy Cares has united dairy industry professionals, other agricultural leaders, affiliated industries, and like-minded individuals who support the groundbreaking medical advancements and efforts of Children’s Wisconsin.
“The generosity we see each year in our donors, sponsors and volunteers is a testament to Wisconsin’s dairyand agriculture communities,” said Ostrom. “We are united in our desire to give back in a meaningful and impactful way.” While the funds raised by Dairy Cares aid in the daily operation of the medical & health system, two projects stand out:
In 2022, Children’s Wisconsin-Fox Valley introduced the Dairy Cares Physical Therapy/Occupational Therapy space, which will help youngsters regain critical skills as part of their ongoing treatment plans.
In 2018, Children’s Wisconsin-Milwaukee launched the state-of-the-art Dairy Cares Simulation Lab, which gives medical professionals a safe venue to learn and sharpen their skills before using them in the field.
Laurie Fischer is another founding member of Dairy Cares of Wisconsin. As a well known leader and lobbyist in the dairy industry, Laurie is also a mother who holds Children’s Wisconsin near and dear to her heart. When her son was a baby he was diagnosed with a heart defect. He was treated for years to come through the great care of Children’s Wisconsin.
