The California State Holstein Convention 2016 was held January 28-30 in Modesto, CA. The convention was hosted by the Stanislaus County Holstein Breeders’ Club, and chaired by Robert & Kate Teixeira. As part of the Host Night reception and dinner inside the convention center, the CA State Sale featured 59 lots and averaged $5,775.
Over 60 youth competed in contests such as Prepared Public Speaking, scholarship interviews, Breeder of the Future interviews, Dairy Bowl and Dairy Jeopardy to vie for the coveted state champion titles, and the opportunity to represent CA at the National Holstein Convention coming up in June.
Adult attendees participated in the Holstein USA “Member Update Meeting” presented by staff from the national office. Mr. John Talbot, CEO of the CA Milk Advisory Board was an engaging guest speaker during lunch.
At the Annual Banquet, two prestigious awards were given to members. The Doug Maddox Memorial Senior Breeder of the Year Award was awarded to Pat & Steve Maddox of Ruann & Maddox Dairies. The A.J. Quist Memorial Young Breeder of the Year Award was received by Manuel Silveira, III.
Sarah Zonneveld was recognized as the Honorary Junior Member. Youth being selected as Breeders of the Future were Clayton Arntz and Hannah Mancebo. The following juniors were selected as scholarship recipients:
