California State Holstein Convention 2015

The California Holstein Convention was held January 29-30th at the Stockton University Waterfront Hotel in Stockton, CA. See minutes from their annual membership meeting.Photographs and details of the award winners are also posted below, courtesy of Sarah Zonneveld.

Meeting was called to order by President Ryan Matheron, followed by the approval of the agenda. Introductions were made of those present from Holstein Association USA, Agritech Analytics and Holstein World. Approval of the minutes from the 2014 Annual Meeting was made and seconded.

Treasurer’s report was given by Matt Evangelo, along with the Annual Report printouts for all to look over and discuss.

Kate Teixeira made the office managers report. Reporting on membership numbers, website updates and emails sent to help promote upcoming breeder sales and events.

Alexandra Gambonini, president of the Junior Association gave a report of past and upcoming junior events, as well as thanking the senior membership for their continued support of the junior association.

National Directors Message was given by Pat Maddox. He gave the dates and locations to the upcoming National Holstein Conventions. Maddox also announced the upcoming board meeting in March and their plans to discuss some different ways to improve delegate attendance at the National Holstein Conventions.

John Meyer CEO of Holstein USA gave a State of the Association address, highlighting the health and growth of the organization, and upcoming member opportunities.  In the past year, Holstein USA has seen a 4% increase in registrations- this on top of steady 10 year growth pattern.  Complete program enrollment is up 6%, and the new Enlight management software use is growing as well. Meyer explained some of the prestigious awards given at the National Holstein Convention each year to recognize members- Senior Breeder, Young Breeder, and Outstanding Service.  There is a membership meeting/ regional winter forum scheduled for next month in Wisconsin, and video from this meeting will be available to view online. Holstein USA hopes to broadcast next year’s meeting from California.  Mr. Meyer thanked the California breeders and state association members for their input and thoughts on Holstein industry issues, also hospitality during the convention.

Committee reports were given by Matt Evangelo and Ryan Matheron. They announced the 2015 California State Show will be held in Turlock at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds on April 23rd & 24th. Matheron also introduced Julie Ashton as the new editor of the Holstein World and announced they looked forward to working with both Julie and Joel Hastings on this year’s upcoming California Annual Magazine. Matheron also announced the associations upcoming membership events taking place.

Upcoming State conventions locations and hosting clubs were announced, as well as Robert and Kate Teixeira being announced as next year’s Convention Chairmen for the Stanislaus Holstein Club.

Presidents message was given by Ryan Matheron . Matheron thanked the board of directors and the membership for their support through his 2 years of service as president. He also expressed his gratitude to Matt Evangelo who will be taking his place as president.

Resolutions were given by Anthony Souza highlighting Board members for their service as well as our condolences to those who have lost loved ones from our association.

Dino Migliazzo as head of the nominating committee announced that Mike Moretti was running unopposed for his 2nd term. There were no other nominations to discuss or vote on.

There was no other business to be discussed therefore the meeting was adjourned by the new president Matt Evangelo.
