Outstanding Quality At Borderway
The November edition of the Border & Lakeland club show and sale had quality fresh heifers from start to finish consigned by many of the UK leading herds. It was one of the best offerings for many months and included heifers with outstanding breeder’s pedigrees; it was also evident that some buyers were missing due to the Lemington dispersal that was planned for the following two days.
The event was sponsored by Paragon Veterinary Group and Cogent Breeding and judged by Mr Andrew Waddel from the Dewshill herd. Mr Waddel purchased the overall champion Chishillways Dancer Jubilant consigned by P&CA Harrison, Breckney Hill, Newcastle for 2,400gns. She was sired by ALH Dancer and bred from a VG dam. The Reserve Champion was consigned by Skirwith Hall Farms, Stowbeck Shottle Juliet, was sired by Picston Shottle and bred from three generations of VG dams. She was also purchased by the judge for 2,200gns.
Topping the price charts was Wormanby Shottle Mahala consigned by H,M & D Hodgson, Carlisle, she sold for 3,900gns to an undisclosed buyer. Mahala had one of the best pedigrees offered in the club sales for some time and was bred from 7 Excellent or Very Good dams from the super Dirigo Integrity Mahala EX94.
The Hodgson family consigned six special animals and their Wormanby Steady Miss America sold for the second highest price on the day going to Ian Stewart, Halldykes, Lockerbie for 2,700gns. She was sired by Stantons Steady and bred from an EX91 Zenith dam.
The Stowbeck herd is renowned for breeding long-life cows and selling for 2,600gns was Stowbeck Goldfinger Dewdrop sired by Braedale Goldfinger. Her first three dams all produced over 60 tons of milk in their lifetime with impressive components. Dewdrop was purchased by N&SJ Sanderson, Burtholme Farm, Brampton.
