Australia’s Defining a Decade Sale Averages $9,670

A new Australian All Breeds record for a dairy cow 2-years-old and over was set at the Defining a Decade Sale for Lightning Ridge Genetics of Declan Patten held on farm at Glengarry, Vic.

The top seller at $54,000 was the current All Australian 3-year-old, View Fort Jagger Satin VG 88, who completes 14 generationss of EX & VG. This 4-year-old sold close to calving, and presented in tremendous form. She was purchased by a syndicate of Brindabella Holsteins and Tomargo Holsteins and associates.

Second high seller at $35,000 was for Lightning Ridge WSMR CMD Avenger Baz. This 4-month-old calf sold to John Tarpey of Ireland, and is out of Jacobs Lambda Baz, EX 92 who sold earlier this year in the USA for $320,000 and stood third in the 4-year-old cow class at the International Holstein Show. The same buyer also purchased Lightning Ridge CMD Jagger Baby, a classy April born heifer from the same maternal line for $18,000.

Top selling Jersey lot was the pick of heifer calves due in July by Victorious from the current World Dairy Expo and Royal Winter Fair Reserve Grand Champion, GMBV Joel Dixie at $28,000 selling to Weventure Farming, NSW.

The 2025 Sydney Royal World Conference Champion, Rivendell Gentry Toffee EX-92 completing 6 gens of EX, sold for next best price of $25,000 to the Syndicate of T & L Smethurst, C Trimby & V Mathews. Her 4-month-old Victorious calf sold at $14,000 to Goode Farming of Poowong.

The very correct show winning heifer, Lightning Ridge MB Victorious Eloise, a daughter of former WDE & All American Grand Champion, Rivendale VIP Eloise EX-94, sold for $17,000 to Kings Veldt Genetics of Glen Alvie. These buyers also purchased the one Guernsey in the sale, Kalaso LR Missile Jazzy, a grand daughter of the WDE Grand Champion Springhill Mentor Jazzy EX-95, for $10,000.

Lawwal Holsteins in New Zealand were at the sale and selected the exceptional July, 2025 heifer, Lightning Ridge Alpha Apple 2-Red, backed by 9 generations of EX dams at $18,000.

Brad Salmon of Bungador paid $15,000 for Lightning Ridge WSMR Hulu Shakira-Red, a 7-month-grand daughter of Erbacres Snapple Shakira EX 97.|

Other noted sales included Westmuir LR Maximum Adler-Red, Lightning Ridge Analyst Siren-Red, Lightning Ridge MB Alpha Licorice-RC and Lightning Ridge CMD Jagger Babe, all at $12,000 each.

Lightning Ridge Lambda Splendour, Lightning Ridge FD Avalanche Katrysha EX-90 and Lightning Ridge MB Dropbox Curly all were struck off at $11,000 each.  Holsteins Lightning Ridge Maximum Apple-Red and Windy Vale Unstopabull Angel-Red VG-88 both sold at $10,000; and Jerseys Wanstead FCG Jordan Fernleaf and Brookbora PGRS Chrome Lovelies EX-91 also made $10,000 each.

56 lots grossed $541,500 and averaged $9,670.

The auctioneer was Brian Leslie OAM and Roger Turner read pedigrees. Buyers were from all parts of Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia & Tasmania along with buyers from the UK, Ireland & New Zealand.
