Its already been a great week in the Maritimes.
After traveling across the Confederation Bridge twice I am not back in PEI for the rest of the week!
August 6th – I had another story stop today at Combination Holsteins watch for their story in the Spring Convention issue! Karen Versloot and her children Josey, Austin, Hannah & Alex milk 75 cows in a freestall barn along with the help of herdsmen Johnny Voordouw and Dan Montgomery. Their current BCA average is 208-208-208.
Its August 5th & today, I had the chance to catch up with some old friends and visited Musquie Valley Farms and Pinehaven Jerseys. Watch for website and in print stories this fall!
Musquie Valley Farms – John & Gwen Dillman & Reg, Melissa, Kaden & Tate Dilllman milk 45-50 Holsteins, Jerseys and Ayrshires in a 70 cow tie stall barn built in 2003. The herd consists of 13 EX, 33VG and 10 GP averaging 86.7 pts. One cow that put the farm on the map was Cobequid Lance Canuck Spumante.
Pinehaven Jerseys– Eric & Kelly Thomson along with RJ, Jennifer, Conner, Lainey and Lucas Dillman work together to run the Pinehaven Herd. Milking 50 Jersey cows the farm was purchased in 1970. The herd averages 261-254-257 and has 7 EX, 32 VG & 15 GP. Pinehaven is most know for Pine Haven SS Marmie now owned by River Valley Genetics as well as the sire Pine Haven Senior.
