Milking Shorthorn breeders and enthusiasts will come together June 27-30, 2018 in Willmar, Minnesota for the American Milking Shorthorn Society (AMSS) National Convention. This event will include the annual AMSS meeting, several American Milking Shorthorn Junior Society (AMSJS) events including the National Heifer Show and AMSJS annual meetings, as well as the National Convention Sale.
Minnesota has prepared an exciting week of farm tours and hospitality to balance the business of the Annual Meeting. Junior members will have a week filled with competition including the National Junior Awards, National Heifer Show, and Jeopardy contest, ending the week with a lake outing to enjoy.
Farm tours planned for the week include Meadow Star Dairy, Corstar Farms, and Paulson Farms. Meadow Star Dairy utilizes a 106-stall rotary parlor to maintain a milking herd of 6000 head. This facility impresses with the size and scale of production. Corstar Farms is a multi-breed operation owned by Cory and Kristen Salzl focusing on the development of elite Registered Milking Shorthorn, Guernsey, and Jersey cattle. Top cow families have led Corstar to much success in the show ring. Paulson Farms is a fourth-generation operation with a strong history in the Milking Shorthorn breed. This herd of 45 Milking Shorthorns is a true family passion and continues to develop in many successful ways.
Official business will be addressed during the Annual Meeting on Friday, June 29th. Members and outstanding animals of the breed will be honored at the awards breakfast and annual banquet, also on Friday, June 29th. Rounding out the week, the National Sale will offer some of the best animals in the breed on Saturday, June 30th.
The American Milking Shorthorn Society will provide updates throughout the week on Facebook and Dairy Agenda Today. For further information regarding the event, visit www.milkingshorthorn.com.
