2014 American Guernsey Convention Wisconsin – Grand River Great Guernseys

Trempealeau, Wis.  – U.S. dairy producers will set their sights on LaCrosse,
Wis., for the National Guernsey Convention, June 25-30, at the Radison Hotel, LaCrosse WI.
The convention program offers everything from technical expertise to help producers stay knowledgeable, to farm tours offering the chance to view a variety of Guernsey operations. “Attendees can look forward to viewing some of the best Guernseys in North America while learning from fellow producers and industry experts about ways Guernsey breeders are adding value to their operations,” says Deb Lakey; Wisconsin Guernsey Breeders State Secretary.

The convention begins on Wednesday with tours of GEA’s Robotic manufacturing
facility, a DeLaval Robotic Dairy, a tour of the Mississippi Lock and Dam and Elmaro Winery with Dinner in Trempealeau. Thursday will include touring 2 Northeastern Guernsey Dairies in Iowa and a Welcome to Wisconsin Dinner with guest Secretary of Ag “Ben Brancel” as guest speaker.

Friday’s highlights include youth competitions, type and production meetings and a “Wisconsin Friday night Fish and Chicken dinner” featuring the sounds of “Vocal Point” an elite musical group from Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau High School.

Saturday offers the opportunity to visit several more Guernsey operations in West Salem, Bangor and Cashton with dinner and entertainment on the farm including fitting demonstrations and Farmer Olympics.

Sunday features the Adult Awards Brunch, an IVF Seminal with Todd Brancel, a Parade of sale cattle, and the Youth Banquet and Youth Auction. Monday begins with the annual meetings and open forum, and will wrap up the weeks events with the highlight of the convention being the National Sale, which begins at 11:30 a.m. at the LaCrosse County Fairgrounds in West Salem WI. More than 65 live consignments, 8 embryo packages and 20 lots of prized semen from the most elite Guensey Genetics in the County will be featured at this sale. The Sale will be broadcast live and online bidding will be available through www.cowbuyer.com
