13TH Annual Western Ontario Junior Show

Woodstock, ON  – As in past years another great group of youngsters under the age of 14 descended upon the Outdoor Farmshow site in Woodstock to diligently prepare their 4-H project and set up their club exhibit area prior to a great day of showing.

Once settled in, the first day included new workshops from Holstein Canada and Shur
Gain as well as a favourite station on how to wash and feed your show animal and preparation of a bedding pack.

Past participants of the event enthusiastically returned as fitters for the show working with each participant to clip their animal, while others assisted in putting together a fun program for the participants. The educational portion of the day finished off with Curtis McNeil conducting a showmanship clinic for all in attendance.

The final day of the event was the much anticipated show. Judge Kyle Rivington from Carp, Ontario handily evaluated the 92 exhibitors on a beautiful July day! The day began with the Sr. and Jr. Showmanship competition, followed by the confirmation classes. First place Senior and Grand Champion Showman went to Kurtis Frischknecht of Huron and second place Sr. and Honorable Mention went to Jordan Hawthorne of Perth County. The winner of the Junior Showmanship and Reserve Champion was Kyla Lewis of Middlesex while second Jr. went to Morgan Anderson of Kent County.
Grand Champion Calf for the day was Glengrove Law Ivy, first place Sr. Calf for Owen Hartman of Perth and Reserve went to Roesbett Windbrook Ritzy the first place Int. Calf for Abby McCall Perkins of Oxford. Second place Int. calf and Honourable Mention was Hanalee McCutchen Cherry Coke forAlex McKay of Oxford.

A highlight of the event is the draw for the 4-H tack box, with this year’s winner being Adam Reid of Kent. Major sponsor of the event, Bruce Witmer was on hand to make the presentations to the winners of the day. A huge thank you to the Outdoor Farmshow for allowing this event to take place at their site. All participants received prizes provided by the sponsors leaving no one empty handed from the day. Thank you again to all the participants, parents, leaders, committee members and sponsors that assisted in again making this show a great success.
