Oakfield, NY- The Tag Sale at Oakfield Corners and the Growing through Showing Youth Workshop held at Oakfield Corners Dairy on April 30 and May 1 was a huge success. The sale resulted in 40 live lots and 1 embryo lot selling for an average of $2,904 and an overall gross of $116,750. The high seller was Lot 10, a December Solomon out of Cowtown Durham Luella EX-94, she was purchased by David Crack, Richmond, QC for $8,250. Cattle were sold to 6 states and 2 Canadian provinces.
The Growing through Showing Youth Workshop hosted 220 youth and their parents and advisors for a day of learning about exhibiting cattle. Attendees hailed from all over New York, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Florida and Ontario, CAN. Youth had the opportunity to learn at nine different stations including, showmanship, fitting, selection, how to read a pedigree, packing your showbox, washing, show calf care, building a pack, and nutrition. The day would not have been possible without the presenters, volunteers, and sponsors for the event. The sponsors included St. Jacobs ABC, Cargill, Farm Credit East, Dr. Tom Mercuro, Animart Inc, Semex USA, Select Sire Power, Opportunity Genetics, and Calf-tel.
