UK`s Solbay Holstein herd Dispersal Sale

The dispersal of the Solbay herd of pedigree Holsteins owned by Messrs JBP Hanley, Manor House, Edderside, Maryport took place at Borderway, Carlisle on Wednesday 1^st May in front of a packed ringside, neighbouring farms supported the sale along with  buyers from thirteen different counties.

They were an impressive group of milky cows and heifers with most of the freshly calved animals selling for £2000 or above a big percentage of the herd was due to calve in the autumn and they are were in strong demand with milk producers striving to lift their production profiles for the 2014.

A top price of 2,300gns was achieved three times, firstly for a home bred cow fresh in her second lactation.  Solbay More April was sired by Stanbro More and was purchased by RH Steel of Dunmara House.
The second animal to sell for 2,300gns was a young heifer purchased from the Warnleview herd sired by Magor Bolivia Allen and bred from two Excellent dams with over 70 ton lifetime production.  She now joins the herd of T Forsyth of Isle Farm.

Also equalling the top price was another classy home bred heifer sired by Ladys-Manor O Autumn, she was freshly calved in February and was sold giving 32kgs, she now joins the herd of WR&JE Dixon of Beech House.

A fresh April calved cow originally purchased from the Seacote herd sold for 2,200gns.  She was a daughter of Far-O-La Debbie-Jo Drake and was purchased by T Forsyth of Isle Farm.
