Magnussen Retires from Brown Swiss Association, Horn Promoted to Executive Secretary

With a lifetime affiliation in the Brown Swiss breed and serving the last 7 years as Executive Secretary of the Brown Swiss Cattle Breeders’ Association of the USA, Norman C. Magnussen will be retiring December 31, 2025.

He grew up on the family-owned Norvic Farm in Lake Mills, Wisconsin. Norm owned and operated Brown Swiss Sale Service for 41 years from 1976 to 2017. At his 2018 BSCBA job interview, Norm told the board of directors his main priorities would be the integrity of the breed and keeping the front door open. During his time in office, Magnussen helped negotiate the Association through the Covid years, including the twice postponed World Brown Swiss Conference, until the US Association could host the World Conference in 2022. During this timeframe, greater emphasis was put on Genomic testing, which has had a positive impact on Brown Swiss evaluations. In addition, there were two PPR formula adjustments made to enhance breed advancements. Also, during his years at the Association, needed building maintenance was undertaken to replace the roof, overhaul the boiler system, and paint the building, while leaving the Association in a sound financial position. Norman and his wife, Traci, reside in Lake Mills, WI.

Allicia Horn, who has been with the Brown Swiss Association for 12 years, as registration specialist, bookkeeper, and as Office Manager for the last 7 years, will be assuming the Executive Secretary position starting January 1, 2026. This promotion is well-earned and well-deserved. Allicia has a bachelor degree in business management from UW-Whitewater and has had experience in business management for nearly 20 years. Horn looks forward to continuing to provide great service to the Association’s members and continue to move the Association forward into the future. The Association will be in great hands, and her leadership will continue to make the Association a respected voice in the industry. Allicia and her husband, Jamie, have two young daughters and reside in Janesville, WI.
