Henry (Hank) Jacob Vanderpost Obituary

It is with incredible sadness that we announce the passing of Henry (Hank) Jacob Vanderpost on Monday, April 28, 2025 at 86 years of age.

Beloved husband of Betty Lou (nee Williams) for 61 years. Loving father of Garry (Bev), Darlene (Brian Jebb) and Joanne (Bill English). Proud Grandpa of Trenton (Nichole), Ryan (late), Madison, Carter, Brenleigh and Vanessa. Admired “Grandpa Hank” to Archer and Wynn. Brother to the late Leonard (Willie), late Maria Dol (late Joe), Peter (Carol), late John (Cheryl), and Jake (late Anne).

Hank immigrated from Holland with his family in 1952 and settled at Kingsfield Farm in King City, Ontario. Shortly thereafter, he began working for Tannery Hill Farms where he remained for 15 years. It was through his mentor, Jim Schwartz, that he developed his skills and knowledge in the purebred dairy cattle industry. Once married, he ventured out on his own, purchasing a farm in Beeton, and 5 years later in Bradford. During this time he pursued a career as a professional hoof trimmer. Over the next 40 years he travelled across Canada, the USA and even into South America, working for most of the elite breeders in the dairy industry. During this time, he was also a coloured breed classifier, evaluating cattle for the Jersey, Brown Swiss, Milking Shorthorn and Guernsey breeds. He had a deep passion for breeding, developing and caring for the dairy cow under the Vanhaven/Vanholm prefixes, with unmatched dedication and work ethic. Winning the Curtis Clark Achievement Award was one of his proudest accomplishments, proof he had left a mark on the Canadian dairy industry.

Hank treated everyone as an equal, always making time for a quick chat regardless of who you were. His kindness, quiet strength, and unwavering integrity left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He was a mentor to many, always ready with a listening ear, thoughtful advice, and words of encouragement. Though he’s no longer with us, the example he set and the love he gave will continue to guide and inspire us. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Visitation will be held at Skwarchuk Funeral Home, 30 Simcoe Road, Bradford on Monday, May 5, 2025 from 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at St. John’s Presbyterian Church, 2940 10th Sideroad, Bradford on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Bond Head United Church Cemetery.

We wish to acknowledge Yvonne and Pat, who provided care and conversation for dad when we could not be at his bedside. Extra special thanks to the wonderful staff and volunteers at Matthews House for the endless comfort, care, and compassion given to dad and our entire family.

In lieu of  flowers, donations may be made to Matthews House Hospice or Bond Head United Church.
