IDFA President Concerned About Mass Deportations

The President of the International Dairy Foods Association says producers and processors are concerned about President Trump’s plans for deporting undocumented immigrants.

Michael Dykes told industry leaders,“I think mass deportations will probably be the next thing that we deal with as an industry.”

Dykes says IDFA is doing what it can to help the industry prepare. “We’ll be doing a webinar for our members on how to prepare for that and what to do if you get the knock on the door, but our industry at-large, this will probably be the next thing we encounter. We’ll have to work our way through that and we will, and we’re working closely with the meat industry, which I think will be there with us.”

Dykes says IDFA is also working for reforms in the visa programs, knowing H2-A doesn’t work for dairy farmers or processors. “As we do more on mass deportations, we’re going to have to find some way to make the legal process work. We need a workforce.”

Dykes made his comments during the recent Dairy Forum in San Antonio, Texas.
