Ohio Veterinarian Named Obie Snider Award Winner

Dr. Alan McCauley DVM of Ada, Ohio, will receive the Obie Snider Award at the All-American Dairy Show on Monday, September 18 at 4 p.m., during the Premier National Junior Show Supreme Champion Pageant at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center, Harrisburg.

The award, established in memory of Obie Snider, a founding father of the All-American Dairy Show, recognizes an individual who places significant value in service to the dairy industry and community, and displays high standards of conduct.

“Dr. McCauley was pivotal in moving the All-American Dairy Show forward during many organizational changes, and Obie Snider would undoubtedly be pleased in the direction of our show thanks to Alan’s guidance and leadership,” said All-American Dairy Show President Michelle Cornman. “He is a prime example of what the dairy industry embodies – dedicated, progressive and passionate.”

Dr. McCauley served five years as president of the Pennsylvania Allied and Industries Association, the volunteer board of directors that governs the All-American Dairy Show, as well as many additional years volunteering and participating as an exhibitor.

A native of western Pennsylvania, McCauley is a Penn State University graduate and earned his veterinary degree in 1969 from the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University. After several years in practice, he established Em Tran, Inc., in Elizabethtown, Pa., and Em Tran West in Turlock, Ca., a leader in embryo transfer and genetics. In 2001, he moved to Lovington, N.M., and started New Direction Dairy with his family.

Now retired, McCauley enjoys traveling and spending time with his four children – Kim, Moss, Jennifer and Kristin – and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
