The South West Scotland Dairy Show enjoyed another successful show at Wallets Mart on Wednesday, October 30th. Judge for the evening was Jim Boyd from Lettrickhills, Cambuslang.
In the Jersey and Holstein classes he had some strongly contested classes. And he had his work cut out at the start of the night with lots of enthusiastic youngsters in the showmanship and calf classes.
New for 2019 was the Calf Championship, taking this title was the Jersey calf, Tintoview Engineer Harvest, by Enniskillen Engineer, from the Buchanan family. In reserve was Steven Roan’s Colvend Doorman Gloriette a Val-Bisson Doorman daughter.
In the Ayrshire section with John & David Watson’s journey from High Mark, Leswalt was made worth while when their second lactation High Mark Obligation Melanie taking the honours. This daughter of Knowe Obligation.
In reserve was Halmyre Urr Floralin 217 from the Davidson family. Sired by Gen-I-Beq Attico Red she calved her first in July and is currently giving 37 litres. This was he first time show.
The Buchanan family from Laigh Kilphin stood champion and reserve in the Jersey section. Bluegrass Shandys August Blondie claimed the championship for the second time. Fresh in August with her third this Bluegrass Shimmer Sandy daughter is classified EX94. She stood second senior cow at UK Dairy Expo 2017 and AgriScot 2017.
Standing reserve champion and exhibitor bred champion was Tintoview Tequila Blondie VG87, a Tower Vue Prime Tequila daughter that was fresh in September with her third calf. She continued her form from last year when she also stood reserve champion at the SWS Dairy Show.
It was a clean sweep in the Holstein section for Brian and Michael Yates, their champion, Logan Integral Jodie 3 EX90 calved in August with her third, she is giving 60 litres at 5%bf and 2.92%p.
As a heifer she stood 1st, Red & White champion and interbreed heifer champion at the Royal Highland Show, she was also 1st heifer in milk, champion and interbreed champion at Dumfries Show and 2nd at UK Dairy Day to her full sister.
Standing reserve champion was Lomond Berryhill Tory EX93-2E, bred by Robert and Jane Steele she was purchased as a fresh heifer. Fresh with her fourth in February, this was the first outing for Troy who is giving 48 litres at 3.35%bf and 3.19%p.
