Burlington WA-All/West Select Sires announces the addition of Matt Jansen to the team as an Account Manager/Animal Health Care Specialist in western Oregon.
Matt grew up on his family’s dairy, Wil-Rene Farms, a “century farm” in Forest Grove, OR, where they milked Brown Swiss, Guernsey and Holstein cattle. Matt graduated from Oregon State with a degree in Animal Science with a dairy option. After graduation, he was hired to be the university dairy herdsman.
There he managed 12 student workers and a herd of 85 cows. “A lot of students had very little dairy experience when they came to Oregon State, so there were many teachable moments just doing everyday work around the farm. I started picking bulls and mating the university herd when I was a senior, and continued to do that, as well as manage the entire reproductive program.
Within two years, I had the preg rate up to 27%. We also earned a number of Dairy Council Awards for increased reproductive performance. That’s one of the reasons I wanted to work for All West. I’ve always had a keen interest in reproduction, and that combined with the great group of people at All West made it an easy choice! I have a tremendous amount of respect for people like Lanny Kipp, the late Dave Germany, J.R. Fisher and Darryl Olson.
Matt started work with All West on September 1st, and will be assisting salesmen Darryl Olson and J.R. Fisher with some sales accounts in the northern Willamette Valley, as well as being the point person for All West’s animal health care product lines.
He and his wife, Jessica, have been married for just a year, and when they’re not attending ag events in the area (she works for Oregon Ag in the Classroom), they can be found hiking, mountain biking, or spending time at the home farm.
