Mexico Receives Cattle From Australia to Support Breeding

Over six thousand live cattle have arrived in Mexico from Australia as part of efforts to support producers’ breeding programmes.

The cattle will be used for breeding in the states of Coahuila, Chiapas, Jalisco and Nayarit.

The cattle are of Hereford, Angus, Brahman and Jersey breeds. Mexico’s agriculture ministry SAGARPA is supporting the imports, to try and improve the quality of the national herd.

Animal health officers travelled with the cattle and inspected them on arrival to ensure that animal health requirements were met and prevent transfer of disease.
