Dairy cattle shows at 2013 Washington State Fair announced

The Washington State Fair has announced the dates of the 2013 dairy cattle shows, which will be held during the State Fair, Sept. 6-22, 2013. Those interested in registering their dairy cattle must do so online by Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013 at 10 p.m. PDT.

To obtain the list of conditions for entry and requirements or to register online, visit www.thefair.com, and select Exhibit entries. To review competition rules in the premium book, click on Cattle, Dairy. Or, to enter, click Online Entry Registration. Then click Login/Logoff and choose your Type (Exhibitor), to Create Entries. You will select the department and division. Entry fees for cattle must be submitted at the time of registration. The entry fee is $16.50 for Jersey, Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, Milking Shorthorn, Holstein and Guernsey breeds. There is no entry fee for group classes.  The last day for substitutions within the same breed is Friday, August 30 and must be cleared through the superintendent. The earliest cattle can arrive at the Fairgrounds is Tuesday, September 3.

 

The cattle show will be held in two sections. Listed below are the sections and dates.

 

            Section I:

  • All Breed Showmanship (Friday, Sept. 6, 10 a.m.)
  • Western National Jersey Heifer Show (Friday, Sept. 6, Noon)
  • Jersey Futurity (Friday, Sept. 6, 6 p.m.)
  • Western Fall National Holstein Heifer Show (Saturday, Sept. 7, 10 a.m.)
  • Western National Jersey Cows Show (Saturday, Sept. 7, 2 p.m.)
  • Western Fall National Holstein Cows (Sunday, Sept. 8, 10 a.m.)

 

Section II:

  • Northwest National Brown Swiss Heifer Show (Wednesday, Sept. 11, 1 p.m.)
  • All Breed Junior Showmanship (Wednesday, Sept. 11, 4 p.m.)
  • Regional Milking Shorthorns Show (Wednesday, Sept. 11, 5 p.m.)
  • NGS-Puyallup alternate with Regional Ayrshires Show (Thursday, Sept. 12, 10 a.m.)
  • Northwest National Brown Swiss Cow Show (Thursday, Sept. 12, 5 p.m.)

 

The Washington State Fair is one of the biggest fairs in the world, and the largest in the Pacific Northwest. It started in 1900 in Puyallup, and welcomes over one million guests to the single largest attended event in the state. Star-studded entertainment, the PRCA Rodeo, rides, exhibits, food, flowers and animals are mainstays of the 17-day event in September.
